Oregon is one of the two (three, if one counts part of Northern California) states that have drawn me for many years. My first trip, in 2002, was to begin my study of photography with Nancy Rotenberg and that week on the coast has informed everything I’ve done since. I've now lost track of the number of times I have traveled to the Oregon coast to photograph. As with many other places, I've only scratched the surface. For this gallery, I am concentrating on the coast, that narrow strip from the Coast Range to the sea. Although in the galleries on this site I have self-limited the images to those done as digital capture, here I thought it fitting to reach back to my film years and start with a few from that very first week in what has become my favorite place in the world, and I do not say that lightly. This gallery ends with images from my most recent trip to Oregon in 2013. I love the Central Coast – from Florence, to the south one has the Oregon Dunes and relatively flat coasts; to the north are the steep headlands and dramatic shores, and the east the coastal forests full of green mystery.
