On Friday, September 23, I will open at The
Photographer’s Gallery the first of five
month-long exhibitions exploring various aspect
of the Pacific coast, from Alaska to California.
The theme of the exhibition is the coastal forest
and each image is accompanied by a short narrative
while short quotes from John Muir complement
groups of images.

Mankind’s fascination
with forests likely has its origins in deep
antiquity. Forests undoubtedly provided
shelter and protection for some of man’s
prehistoric ancestors from the elements
and larger, faster predators. Trees and
forests figure prominently in the mythologies
of cultures from across the world. Today
one needs only to drive into heavily forested
national parks in the U.S. and Canada to
find people there to experience the mystery
of the forest and the awe of looking straight
up at a tree that may be 2,000 years old
and stand 300 feet high. |
| Through a baker’s dozen images, I
hope to share the beauty, the majesty, and
mystery of the coastal forest with you. If
you have not been there yourself, I hope that
some day you will have the opportunity and
that you will find the same solace, the same
unity, and same renewal as have I. |

Exhibitions in future months will follow
a cycle of waterfalls, coastal landscapes,
wildflowers, and inland landscapes. I have
made numerous trips to the Pacific coastal
area over the past six years to photograph
the flora, fauna, and landscapes of this unique
region and am excited to be able to share
my work with a wider audience. I am also introducing
a new section on my web site that will grow
along with the current and future gallery
exhibits, extending by a few images those
that are on display at the gallery. The forest
section is finished and if you wish you may
visit it at Pacific

There is an opening reception during
the Final Friday gallery crawl on September 29
from 6:30 to around 9:00 (or whenever everyone
clears out). Please stop by to see not only my
new work, but that of the other fine photographers
also exhibiting at the gallery. There will be,
as always, snacks and wine. Hope to see you there!
