It was not a far leap from photographing the statues of humans in the Piazza della Signoria to working details of the horses on the Neptune Fountain, Ammannati’s 1575 sculpture. Isolating portions of statues provides an exercise in working with lines and volumes independently of the content of the statue as a whole.
