At any given location, once one works beyond the obvious scenes,
one begins to look for different interpretations. We’d
been here at a spot a short distance from San Gimignano for
more than an hour and I had already made more than 70 exposures.
Working my way down the rows in a vineyard, the flowers between
the rows caught my eye and I did several studies with varying
focal lengths, getting closer and closer to them. This is
one of the series, done at 17mm, the lens inches above the
flowers and angled so as to include the flowers, the vines
on either side, and the distant valley.
