| The
hills and hill towns which dot Tuscany like wildflowers provide
numerous vantage points. This early morning shot from the
grounds of the San Simeone Hotel shows the Crete Senesi landscape
unfolding to the north. The San Simeone, atop the precipitous
Rocca d'Orcia, is all by itself a photographer's paradise.
The hotel occupies what was once an abbey, but the rooms are
far from monk's cells. There is a charming chapel, undergoing
restoration, and the wild flowers on the grounds could keep
a macro enthusiast busy for days. The tiny town of Rocca has
it's own completely unspoiled charm, there are ruins to explore,
and the ever changing light over the vistas in almost every
direction. I can't wait to return, hopefully as early as 2009.
