My first (and so far only) trip to the Canadian Rockies was in June of 2014. In slightly more than a week we covered a small portion of Jasper and Banff national parks. While I lived for many years in Colorado, hiking, climbing, snowshoeing and skiing large portions of that state and thought I knew what rugged was, I was unprepared for the sharp relief and starkness of the terrain. These are more heavily glaciated and the climate wetter than the Colorado Rockies.
