Events are fleeting and often memorable. Yet, how many times does something planned with great care pass by with only our memories to show for it? The role of the professional photographer in capturing these singular events in our lives is to stand outside the emotions and preferences that cloud the camera-equipped participant, however well-intentioned. Too often participants are too caught up in the emotions and thus miss the decisive moments. The professional is in a much better position to remain dispassionate and thus to create a solid photographic record.
