The Nature Of Light

Moonlight

Digital capture, Nikon D300, 200mm f/4

I have photographed many scenes that included the moon, but for the most part the prevailing illumination came from the evening sky. This image I created from a double exposure of an Echinacea flower and the nearly-full moon a few minutes past midnight on a nearly-windless July night. The sole illumination is from the moon, which was at my back when I photographed the flower portion of the image. To shoot the moon I merely swung the tripod around and recomposed to place the moon where I wanted it in the shot.
