The Nature Of Light

Red Light

Closeup shots of flowers are a good way to isolate a single color or a narrow range of colors. Larger flowers such as tulips and roses work well for this. The title of this work comes from the Chinese for “heartbeat”: Xin tiào which, literally translated back into English, comes out Heart Jump. It’s all another way of asking you, the viewer, to reconsider the common ways we think of things and probe the depths of our understandings. There is always another way of looking at something. Red is the most vigorous color, symbolizing fire and blood, and hence power, desire, love, and strong emotion. In my photography of red flowers, strong emotions felt held at the time have always produced the best images.
