The view looking west across Sullivan Bay to
Santiago from the summit of Bartolomé is one of the most
photographed in the islands. We visited in the late afternoon
and found the light very hot and contrast exceeding high with
too much glare for decent photography. Morning, with the light
behind you, would be a better time to visit. The hike to the top
takes 30-45 minutes without stopping, and is steep enough that
all but the most fit will find stopping a necessity. There is
a board walk the entire distance.
In this scene, the remnants of several spatter
cones are clearly visible, along with eroded lava flows on the
right of the image.
