Much of Santa Cruz falls in the Scalesia zone, a lush cloud-forest riddled with tortoise trails. Maybe it was just to keep us from wandering off, but the guides told us that tourists have become lost for days back in the forests. Some of us wandered off anyway until a frantic guide came running after us.
