At the same time the westernmost and the youngest of all the Galápagos islands, Fernandina is the wildest and least accessible of the islands, with only one visitor site. It is still active volcanically with sulphur fumaroles dotting the flanks of the island’s lone volcano, which last erupted in 1995.

In this images, shot on the shore at the visitor site, a dead tree frames two sea lions playing in the surf with the cloud-shrouded volcano in the distance.
