SINGULAR CONNECTIONS: THE GALÁPAGOS ISLANDS

John Ellert Photography

Nursing Sea Lion

Sea lion pups typically nurse for around five months, but if food is scarce they may nurse for up to three years.

Where else could one stand close enough to a nursing sea lion pup to hear its suckling sounds? With little fear of humans, even a nursing mother allowed us to approach close enough to get frame-filling shots at medium telephoto lengths.
