SINGULAR CONNECTIONS: THE GALÁPAGOS ISLANDS

Hermit Crab

Even more than the Sally Lightfoot crabs, the Semi-Terrestrial Hermit crab requires patience since they retreat into their shell at the slightest movement anywhere nearby. This one I found on the beach at Urvina Bay and set up close to ground level in front of its apparent path. After a while it emerged from its shell and luckily kept going in its original direction, right into my field of view.
