Puerto Vallarta
December 31, 2006
The Sierra Madre Mountains practically push Puerto Vallarta into the Bay of Banderas. When the wind is from the west, the descent into Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport from over the mountains is among the steepest I have experienced. The approach winds down a narrow valley to the east, the aircraft banking from one side of the valley to the other. The city itself spreads in a long, narrow band from south to north between sea and mountain.
