Until someone decided to trim them to the ground, the vines
that grew on this fence provided me each fall with colorful
leaves against the pleasing neutral gray of the weathered
cedar. On this particular day I was out before sunrise doing
macro studies of the leaves. Soon I felt the warmth of the
sun on my back and turned to see our star rising through the
morning mists over Beech Lake. The principal elements in this
image immediately flashed before me and it was a simple matter
to create the image in camera that I had pre-visualized in
my mind, combining the red leaves against the gray fence,
the neutral color of which I knew would disappear, with the
sun rising through the mist. I had to move my tripod several
feet to one side in order to position the sun between the
trees on the other side of Webb Road. I use the grid lines
on the E-Screen in my camera’s viewfinder to assist
in the placement of elements in composite images. |
