This is one of a large group of images created in response
to my reading of a cycle by the contemporary Chinese poet
Lin Xi. Asuro, the poem which inspired
this image and another elsewhere in this exhibition, talks
about love gone sour, one lover having broken the glass slipper
of love by becoming the mythical warrior-god Asuro, swathed
in flames. In this series of images I attempted to capture
the key elements of the poem in the combination of flowers
in my yard, painting the images on film by building the image
one exposure at a time. The placement of all the elements
in the image was worked out before I started shooting and
it took about an hour to create each of the images. |
