Van Dusen Gardens were recommended to me by a friend and
it is indeed a paradise for my mind’s eye. Van Dusen
(unlike some other Vancouver-area gardens) is very photographer-friendly.
Even though I was not there at the very best time of year,
there was more than enough to keep me busy for an entire day.
I found the rose garden early in my visit, shortly after the
doors opened in the morning and invested the better part of
an hour just in this small space, in communion with a spirit
which had gone before. Although several strong images came
from this single rose blossom, I have chosen to highlight
this one in which I return to my edge-and-ground theme; only
the single edge is in sharp focus while the rest of the rose
falls away in a color wash. |
