This is one of my earliest voyages into impressionist style and I was consciously copying (as much as possible with the camera replacing the brush) the feeling elicited by French Impressionist painters by stressing broadly defined shapes and washes of color rather than a detailed rendition of the garden before me. It is not a very great leap from this image to MHG, created two years later, even though the thought process behind each of the two images was very different.
