JOHN ELLERT PHOTOGRAPHY

New Brunswick, October 2004

I traveled to Saint John for the purpose of attending Freeman Patterson's "Visual Design" workshop, spending a few days before the workshop photographing in the Saint John area. The work on these few pages encompass this pre-workshop shooting, but comprise mostly images shot in and around Kingston and Adair's Camp, where the workshop was held. Just for my own purposes, I've divided the images I've chosen to present into a few discrete groupings of related images.

Technicalities

For those who are interested, the images in this presentation were made mostly on Fuji Velvia-50 or Kodak E100VS film using a Nikon F5; a few were done with my venerable Olympus OM2n. The digital originals were done with a Nikon D70. For each image I indicate the lens & film used. Exposure was measured mostly in matrix metering, with compensation as required. In-flight birds were spot-metered & compensated for tonality. Film images scanned on Nikon Super Coolscan 4000 ED and color-corrected and cropped in Photoshop 7.0.
